About the product
Discover a clear, accessible account of one of the most defining chapters in Madagascar's modern history.
From 1896 to 1960, Madagascar lived under French colonization. Until 1946, the Malagasy people remained subject to the Code de l'indigénat (Native Code) and were considered French subjects, only beginning to benefit from democratic freedoms and better living conditions after the Second World War. Written by historian Lalasoa Jeannot Rasoloarison and illustrated with around twenty period photographs, this book offers a condensed, wide-ranging overview of French colonial rule in Madagascar — its administration, the resistance it provoked, and its lasting imprint on the nation.
A valuable resource for students, young readers, and anyone wanting a clear introduction to this pivotal period of Malagasy history — add it to your collection today.
